UPS Cargo Plane Crashes Near Louisville Airport — 3 Dead, 11 Injured
At least three people have been killed and eleven others injured after a UPS cargo aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, according to local authorities.
The plane went down in a field near the southern perimeter of the airport, causing a large fire and thick smoke visible for miles. Emergency teams rushed to the site within minutes, managing to contain the flames before they spread to nearby areas.
Officials confirmed that the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, some with serious burn injuries. Firefighters said debris from the crash scattered across a wide area.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary reports suggest the aircraft may have experienced engine failure shortly after takeoff, though officials have not confirmed this.
UPS released a statement expressing “deep sorrow” over the loss of crew members and said the company is working closely with investigators.
Witnesses near the airport described hearing a “massive explosion” moments after takeoff, followed by heavy black smoke rising from the crash site. Flights at the Louisville airport were temporarily suspended.
