Speaker Mike Johnson Blames Democrats’ “Fear and Weak Leadership” for the Ongoing Government Shutdown
Washington, October 31, 2025:
U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson has launched a sharp criticism of the Democratic Party, accusing its leaders of being paralyzed by fear and lacking the courage to lead during a national crisis.
“Fear is the only thing motivating the Democrat Party,” Johnson said in a statement. “Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is more afraid of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) than he is concerned about millions of hungry Americans.”
Johnson claimed that the Democrats’ indecisiveness and internal fear-driven politics have directly led to the current government shutdown, which he says is punishing “hardworking American citizens.”
According to Johnson, the White House’s policy failures and the Senate Democrats’ unwillingness to compromise have stalled budget negotiations, resulting in a partial shutdown of federal operations.
“If Democrats had the courage to lead, American families wouldn’t be struggling with lost paychecks and food insecurity,” he added. “They are too scared to make the right choices — and the country is paying the price.”
Political analysts believe Johnson’s remarks are part of a broader Republican strategy to project the GOP as the party “standing with the people” ahead of the upcoming presidential election.
The Democratic Party has not yet issued an official response to Johnson’s comments.
