Washington, D.C. – President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak Monday at the Museum of the Bible during a session of the Religious Liberty Commission, a White House official confirmed to Fox News.
The address comes as the Supreme Court faces criticism from a group of anonymous federal judges who argue the high court has increasingly overturned lower court rulings in favor of the Trump administration without providing detailed explanations.
NBC News reported Thursday that it spoke with 12 federal judges—appointed by both Democratic and Republican presidents, including Trump himself. Ten of them said the Supreme Court should offer clearer reasoning when issuing such emergency rulings, warning that the lack of explanation undermines the credibility of lower court judges.
Trump’s upcoming remarks coincide with the second meeting of the Religious Liberty Commission, a body he created earlier this year through executive order as part of his new White House faith office. The commission’s mission is to protect Americans’ right to freely practice their religion, particularly in public education, and to identify what the administration calls “emerging threats” to First Amendment protections.
White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers, in a statement to Fox News, criticized the previous administration for “abusing the power of the federal government to interfere with Americans’ First Amendment right to religious freedom.” She added:
“They even used the Department of Justice to target peaceful people of faith, specifically Christians. This is exactly why President Trump established the Religious Liberty Commission — to stop the emerging threats against Americans’ inalienable right to practice their religion freely. President Trump is the greatest defender for people of faith in modern history and will continue to protect and promote America’s founding principle of religious freedom.”
The event also follows Trump’s second inaugural address earlier this year, during which he described surviving the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, as divine intervention. “I was saved by God to make America great again,” he declared at the time.
The renewed focus on religious liberty comes as courts and lawmakers continue to wrestle with the role of religion in public schools. The White House’s plans for the hearing were first reported by The Daily Wire.
