“Yemeni Armed Forces Successfully Strike Israeli Airport Again,” Says Spokesman Yahya
[Sana'a | July 10, 2025]
The Houthi group in Yemen has claimed responsibility for a successful missile strike targeting Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport. A Zulfiqar ballistic missile was launched toward the airport, according to a pre-recorded televised statement from Yahya Saree, spokesperson for Yemen’s Armed Forces.
He stated:
“Our missile successfully struck its designated target. Sirens went off in over 300 cities and towns across Israel, millions of residents rushed to shelters, and operations at Tel Aviv airport were temporarily suspended.”
This attack comes at a time when outrage across the Muslim world is intensifying in response to Israel’s ongoing military offensive in the Gaza Strip. Yahya Saree made it clear:
“In protest of Israel’s aggression and genocide in Gaza, we are striking inside Israeli territory and will continue targeting Israeli-allied ships in the Red Sea.”
Israel Rejects Houthi Claims
The Israeli military initially stated that it had successfully intercepted the incoming missile near the airport and that no damage was done. However, the Houthi military spokesman’s account tells a different story—suggesting that at least for some time, air travel was suspended and sirens caused panic throughout the capital region.
A New Level of Regional Escalation
For several months, the Houthi group has been issuing threats and carrying out direct attacks against Israel and its allies—especially in the Red Sea area. They have previously targeted Israel-bound or Israel-linked ships with drone and missile strikes, prompting retaliatory attacks on Yemen by the United States and the United Kingdom.
Analysts suggest that such direct strikes inside Israel mark a new phase in the broader Israel-Iran confrontation, as the Houthis are widely viewed as an Iranian ally.
Zulfiqar Missile: A Shadow of Iranian Technology
The Zulfiqar is a medium-range ballistic missile believed to be either developed with or derived from Iranian technology. It has a range of approximately 700 kilometers and can carry a warhead of up to 500 kilograms. It is known for its high precision and has previously been used by the Houthis against targets in Saudi Arabia.
