A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon has gone into effect, according to a senior U.S. official who spoke to Fox News Digital. The official said the ceasefire began at 4:00 p.m. local time on Friday.

A senior Israeli official told Fox News Digital that Israel would honor the truce as long as Hezbollah refrains from attacking. “If Hezbollah doesn’t shoot, we won’t shoot. If they shoot, we will respond,” the official said.

The same official added that Israel remains deployed in the designated security zone and is prepared to react to any violations of the ceasefire. “We are currently in a ceasefire. We remain in the security zone, and if we are attacked, we will respond. We will thwart threats,” the official stated.

The ceasefire follows recent clashes between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah fighters. Earlier on Friday, the IDF reported that four Israeli soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon after an Israeli military tank was struck by what it described as a suspicious target.
