U.S. Imposes Sanctions on UN Official Albanese for “Shameful” Gaza War Report – Secretary of State Marco Rubio
[Washington | July 10, 2025]
The Biden administration’s previously "soft stance" has now shifted to a tough position under Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
On Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States is imposing sanctions on Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian rights. Albanese has repeatedly called for Israeli and American officials to face trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Rubio wrote:
“Albanese’s campaign of political and economic warfare will no longer be tolerated. We will always stand by our allies’ right to self-defense.”
Albanese’s actions have provoked outrage among American lawmakers, diplomats, and human rights organizations.
She not only advocated for ICC cases against American and Israeli leaders but also supported UN Human Rights Council President Navi Pillay and her so-called “Demonic Commission of Inquiry.”
Rubio’s statement further added:
“To those who think the U.S. is powerless because of the UN Headquarters Agreement, our answer is clear: Expel the United Nations from the U.S. — and take Albanese and her accomplices with them.”
Israeli leaders quickly endorsed Rubio’s move. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar responded by saying:
“A clear message. Time for the UN to take notice!”
