[Tehran, June 29, 2025] — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to conduct a thorough investigation into whether Israeli drones recently used Azerbaijan’s airspace to infiltrate Iranian territory during the ongoing conflict.

Iran’s ambassador to Armenia, Mahdi Sobhani, told the state news agency ISNA:

“We have received certain intelligence reports suggesting that a small number of Israeli drones may have entered Iranian territory by using the airspace of a neighboring country (Azerbaijan).”

He further stated:

“In this context, President Pezeshkian had a phone conversation with President Aliyev, during which our president explicitly requested a full investigation into the matter. We are now awaiting the results of that investigation.”

Iranian officials have alleged that Israel is increasingly using the territories and airspaces of neighboring states to carry out attacks on Iranian soil. This development has introduced a new layer of tension and mistrust in Iran-Azerbaijan relations.

According to analysts, if these allegations prove true, they could not only impact Iran-Azerbaijan bilateral relations but also have serious implications for the broader regional security architecture. Iran has stated it is monitoring the situation both diplomatically and militarily, and is prepared to take necessary actions to safeguard its sovereignty.
