Iran’s parliament has approved a decision to suspend cooperation with the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), according to Iran’s state-affiliated news outlet Nournews.

The report states that the parliament has passed a bill under which all previous agreements on inspections and data-sharing with the IAEA will remain suspended until the Supreme National Security Council of Iran gives explicit approval.

The bill also states that if the IAEA, as an international organization, fails to guarantee the security and sovereignty of Iran’s nuclear facilities, its inspectors will no longer be allowed entry into the country.

Citing a member of the parliament’s presidium, Nournews reported:
“Iran’s security and technological capabilities are now at a level where we can independently manage our nuclear program. We will no longer accept any international pressure or surveillance that undermines our national interests and defense infrastructure.”

Analysts believe that, in the wake of the recent conflict with Israel and mounting international pressure, this decision may further escalate tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities. The global response remains uncertain, but an official reaction from the IAEA is expected.
