Washington, July 4, 2025 —
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that it will be known within the next 24 hours what decision the Palestinian armed group Hamas will make regarding a proposed ceasefire in Gaza.

In a statement on Friday, Trump said, “Israel has already agreed to a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. Now it’s Hamas’s turn—whether they will accept this agreement or let the situation deteriorate further.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump had revealed that a peace proposal had been put forward by Israel, which includes not only a long-term ceasefire but also progress on hostage exchange, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction efforts. He issued a stern warning to Hamas, saying, “If they don’t accept it, the consequences could be dire.”

This statement comes ahead of a high-level meeting scheduled for Monday, where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet with Trump at the White House. The final discussion on the ceasefire is expected to take place during this meeting.

President Trump has continued to exert pressure on both Israel and Hamas in an effort to establish a comprehensive agreement that would end the Gaza war and facilitate a hostage exchange. A White House spokesperson said, “The Trump administration wants a solution that ensures a sustainable ceasefire and helps prevent future conflicts.”

At this moment, Gaza stands at the heart of global diplomacy—whether Hamas accepts the ceasefire proposal will determine whether the coming days will bring intensified conflict or a path to peace.
