Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, held a telephone conversation with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The discussion emphasized ensuring security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region as well as deepening economic relations between the two countries.

According to the Chief Adviser’s press wing, Marco Rubio made the call on Monday (June 30) at 7:30 PM. The nearly 15-minute discussion was described in a press release as “cordial, friendly, and constructive,” which was claimed to demonstrate the excellent bilateral relationship between the two nations.

Although Bangladesh’s side did not disclose further details of the discussion, a statement from the U.S. Department of State said:
“Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government. Both reiterated their shared commitment to deepening economic ties between the United States and Bangladesh and strengthening security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.”

Analysts suggest this phone call could be interpreted as a strategic recognition of the interim government by the United States. Especially in the context of China’s and India’s influence in the Indo-Pacific, Bangladesh is considered an important partner in America’s strategic positioning.

Diplomatic observers believe that such high-level communication in the current global geopolitical environment can further deepen and diversify the Dhaka-Washington relationship.
