[Washington, June 29, 2025] — Tech mogul Elon Musk has fiercely criticized the latest Senate draft of President Donald Trump’s much-debated “Big Beautiful Bill.” On his 54th birthday, Musk took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express outrage, stating that the bill would “destroy millions of jobs” and “jeopardize the nation’s strategic position.”
Musk wrote:
“The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause tremendous strategic harm to our country! This is sheer madness and utterly destructive.”
This marks the second time Musk has publicly opposed the bill. Earlier on June 3, he had called the legislation “reckless, disgraceful, and riddled with corruption.” At the time, he condemned senators who supported the bill, stating:
“Shame on those who voted for it. You know you’ve made a mistake.”
Key Provisions and Political Debate
The proposed bill — introduced late Friday night by Senate Budget Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham — is a flagship legislative effort by Senate Republicans. The goal is to pass it before July 4 so that it reaches President Trump’s desk for signature.
Key elements in the bill include:
-
Tax rate changes for Medicaid providers
-
Reallocation of cost-sharing for food stamps and nutrition assistance
-
A revised cap on state and local tax deductions (SALT cap)
-
Reduced tax credits for solar and wind power projects and the imposition of new taxes
According to the new directives, only renewable energy projects launched before 2028 would qualify for tax credits. Others would face new taxation.
Economic and Environmental Concerns
Musk argued:
“This bill subsidizes the past while destroying the industries of the future.”
The American Clean Power Association (ACP) echoed Musk’s concerns, warning that the bill could freeze investment in the domestic energy sector, reduce power generation, and increase utility bills for average Americans.
ACP CEO Jason Grumet stated:
“The Senate has introduced a punitive draft targeting the renewable sector without any warning. This is essentially midnight dumping.”
He further warned that:
-
Hundreds of billions of dollars in current investments would stall
-
National energy security would be compromised
-
Local industries would suffer
-
Rural populations would be the most affected
Democratic Response
Senator Elizabeth Warren posted on X:
“I’ll stay through the night in the Senate to make sure the bill is read in full.”
She added:
“Every second counts in fighting this ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’”
As the bill moves through the legislative process, it has sparked deep political division across the U.S. While the Trump administration is pushing for swift passage by Independence Day, environmentalists and industry leaders warn that the bill could cripple the future of sustainable energy.
