Bangladesh Heritage Day: Bangladeshi invited to Mayor Eric Adams’ invitation at Gracie Mansion
The leading members of the Bangladeshi community in New York City gathered at Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the Mayor, in an event organized on Thursday afternoon, March 7. Mayor Eric Adams praised the Bangladeshi community’s contributions. He said, “New York City is proud of Bangladeshi Americans. Their presence is felt in every department of the city. The doors of the city are open to Bangladeshis.” On March 26, the city hosted Bangladesh Flag Day, Bangladesh Heritage Day, and Ramadan Iftar Party organized by the city. This has solidified Bangladeshis’ position as a prominent community in the city. Personally, I am familiar with Bangladeshis from all areas including Bronx, Church McDonald, Hillside, and Roosevelt Avenue. I want to work more for the welfare of this community in the future.
Mayor Eric Adams awarded four Bangladeshis on the occasion of Heritage Day. They are Rohin Hossain, Abdul Chowdhury Jacky, Dr. Shamim Ahmed, and Monika Ray Chowdhury. Nearly 300 Bangladeshis attended the event. The celebration of Bangladesh Heritage Day began last year at the government residence of the Manhattan Mayor.
The event was led by the Chief Administrative Officer of the Mayor’s Office and Bangladeshi American Meer Bashar. Among the notable attendees were Consul General Nazmul Huda, President of Weekly Azkal Club and New York-Bangladeshi American Lions Club Shah Nawaz, Vice President of Golden Age Home Care Rano Nawaz, grassroots political and community activists Gias Ahmed, Amin Mehedi, Mohammad Ali, President of Jamaica Friends Society Fakhrul Islam Delowar, BNP leader Jakir H Chowdhury, Chairman of Khalil Biryani House Khalilur Rahman, Fahad Solaiman, Roky Aliyan, Mohammad Kashem, community activist M.A. Islam Mamun, Detective Masudur Rahman, Khabeer Uddin Bhuinya, Mohammad Alauddin, Ibrahim Baro Bhuinya, Farida Yasmin, and Abdus Samad Zakaria.
