Bangladeshi Supreme Court’s senior lawyer, human rights activist, and advocate Fahmida Karim Feroz has received the International Women of Courage Award from the United States. The award ceremony took place at the White House on March 4, 2024, local time, at 11 am. The award was presented to her by the U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and First Lady Jill Biden. The event was broadcast live on the White House’s Facebook page.

Earlier this year, the U.S. government announced the names of several women from around the world, including Advocate Fahmida Karim Feroz, for the Courageous Women’s Award. This information was published on the website of the country’s State Department.

Advocate Fahmida Karim Feroz has been fighting legal battles for the rights of marginalized groups for more than three decades. She is the founder of the prestigious legal consultancy firm Fahmida Karim & Associates. Additionally, she serves as the chairperson of the Foundation for Law and Development (FLAD).

Personally, she has filed nearly three thousand cases against employers on behalf of garment workers.

Fahmida Karim Feroz served as the President of the Bangladesh Women Lawyers’ Association from 2007 to 2018. She is also a trustee of the Acid Survivors Trust.

In November 2023, Fahmida Karim Feroz was part of a five-member committee, including five members, formed to investigate and recommend to the Supreme Court administration regarding sexual harassment cases and its recommendations for the court.

It is noteworthy that the United States presents this award annually to women around the world who have shown courage, strength, and leadership in promoting peace, justice, human rights, gender equality, and empowerment of women and girls.
