“Focus on the Flag, Not Drag Shows” — President Trump’s Strong Message at West Point Commencement
[West Point, New York | May 25, 2025]
In his first military academy commencement address since beginning his second term, President Donald Trump delivered a forceful, politically charged, and nationalist speech to the graduating class of West Point. The address included both praise and pointed criticism of previous administrations.
Speaking to 1,002 graduating cadets at Michie Stadium, President Trump said, “You are now graduating from the most respected military academy in the world, and I know you are going to lead the most powerful military on Earth—because I rebuilt that military.”
“The mission is to destroy enemies, not host drag shows”
At one point in his speech, Trump stated clearly, “It’s not the job of our military to host drag shows or change foreign cultures,” taking a direct jab at the policies and cultural direction of the Biden administration.
He continued, “We are returning our military to its core mission: destroying enemies and defending the American flag more strongly than ever.”
A speech filled with political undertones
Trump also remarked, “I’ve been investigated more than Al Capone,” echoing one of his regular campaign slogans. He accused the previous administration of using the military for “political and social experiments.”
Criticism of gender identity and divisive education
The president declared, “I am removing transgender ideology, Critical Race Theory, and political indoctrination from the military.” Highlighting Cadet Bryson Daly, Trump reiterated his opposition to transgender participation in women’s sports, saying, “Women will play in women’s sports.”
A patriotic message for success
Trump told the cadets, “You could have taken high-paying jobs on Wall Street or in Silicon Valley, but choosing to serve your country is the nobler path.” He encouraged them to embrace love, culture, belief in America, and the courage to take risks.
Protesters outside the event
Outside the venue, about three dozen peaceful protesters demonstrated against Trump’s appearance. They held small flags, banners, and slogan-covered signs, with notable messages such as “Go Army Beat Fascism” and “Support Our Veterans.”
