At 43 years old, Tisch is a Harvard graduate with an impressive 16-year career in various key roles across New York City's government agencies. Prior to this appointment, she served as the Commissioner of the Sanitation Department, where her bold leadership and memorable statements, such as "The rats don’t run this city, we do," drew public attention and inspired significant reforms in waste management.

Her initial role within the police department was in the Counterterrorism Bureau, where she played a pivotal role in strengthening post-9/11 security measures. Tisch championed the use of surveillance cameras, license plate readers, and mobile radiation detectors to enhance public safety in the city.

As Deputy Commissioner of the NYPD’s Information Technology Bureau, she modernized the department's operations by introducing body-worn cameras and smartphones for officers, initiatives that significantly boosted police efficiency and transparency.

Upon assuming her new role, Tisch emphasized her commitment to public safety, stating, “Ensuring the security of every New Yorker is my top priority. I believe the strength of this great city lies in the dedication and cooperation of every NYPD officer.”

However, Tisch steps into a challenging environment. The NYPD has faced internal strife in recent years, with former Commissioner Edward Caban resigning amid a federal investigation, and his predecessor, Keechant Sewell, stepping down due to disagreements with Mayor Eric Adams.

New Yorkers now look to Tisch's leadership with high hopes. Her expertise, experience, and forward-thinking approach are expected to bring transformative changes to the city's law enforcement, strengthening trust and safety in the community.
