Iran-backed Houthi group carries out drone attack on Israeli military installation in Tel Aviv in support of Palestinians
Sana, April 5 (Reuters) – The Iran-backed Houthi group from Yemen announced on Saturday that it had launched a drone attack targeting a military installation in the Israeli-controlled Yafa (Tel Aviv) region. The group stated that the attack was carried out in support of the Palestinians.
Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree, in a statement broadcast on Al-Masirah TV, confirmed that the Yemeni drone forces used a "Yafa-type" drone to carry out the strike on the Israeli military installation. He further stated that the operation was intended to assist the Palestinians, who are victims of "genocide" in Gaza, and their militant supporters, who he claimed are being attacked with U.S. backing.
Israel had previously reported that it intercepted a drone flying over the Arava region, which had approached from the "eastern" direction.
In another attack, Saree claimed that the Houthi air defense system shot down an American "Giant Shark F360" drone in the Saada region of Yemen, which was reportedly gathering intelligence for the U.S. and Israel.
He added, "Our forces will continue to carry out their duty in support of the oppressed Palestinians until Israeli attacks cease and the blockade on the Gaza Strip is lifted."
Following a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza in January, the Houthis had ceased missile and drone strikes on Israel. However, they resumed attacks last month after Tel Aviv violated the ceasefire.
