Trump Criticizes Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, Urges Quick Interest Rate Cuts
US President Donald Trump on Friday criticized Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, urging him to cut interest rates quickly, stating that he always "delays" actions. Trump made these remarks in a post on his social media platform "Truth Social," saying, "This would be a perfect time for Fed Chairman Jerome Powell to cut interest rates."
He further stated, "He always acts 'late,' but now he can change his image, and do it quickly."
Trump also commented on the prices of energy, interest rates, inflation, and even the drop in egg prices, as well as the increase in jobs over the last two months. He said, "This is a big win for America. Lower interest rates, Jerome, and stop the politics!"
Trump's call came before Powell's comments, where he mentioned that retaliatory tariffs would be "larger than an insurrection." Powell stated that higher tariffs would increase inflation and slow growth. He also mentioned, "We’ve said that evaluating the potential economic impact of higher tariffs will be very difficult until the details are clear, such as which tariffs will be imposed, how much they will be, how long they will last, and the level of retaliation from our trade partners."
