Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump is planning to visit Saudi Arabia on his first foreign trip of his second term, which is expected to take place in mid-May, according to a report from Axios published on Sunday. The information was provided by two officials from the U.S. administration and a source familiar with the president's travel plans.
Saudi Arabia has recently been playing a more significant role in U.S. foreign policy. The country has hosted discussions between the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine, and Trump considers Saudi Arabia a key partner in brokering a ceasefire. Additionally, the White House has identified Saudi Arabia as a potential member for participation in the Abraham Accords.
Earlier this month, Trump announced that he would make his first foreign trip to Saudi Arabia. On March 6, he stated that he would visit Saudi Arabia within a month. He also mentioned that his first foreign trip during his first term in 2017 was to Riyadh.
A source mentioned that April 28 was initially considered as a possible date for the visit, but it has been postponed. According to the current plan, President Trump will visit Saudi Arabia in mid-May, as noted in the Axios report.
The White House has not yet commented on the matter, and no official announcement or confirmation has been made by the Saudi side regarding the possible date of the visit.
