New Jersey, March 21 – U.S. President Donald Trump took another step against his Democratic opponents on Friday by revoking the security clearances of former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and others.
President Trump, who defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election and Kamala Harris in the election last year, stated in a Friday memorandum, "I have decided that these individuals are no longer suitable to access classified information in the national interest." The name of former Secretary of State Antony Blinken was also mentioned in the memorandum.
Although the immediate impact of the security clearance revocation may not be evident, it indicates an additional level of division in U.S. politics and suggests that Trump is seeking revenge against his political enemies. This memorandum was issued just hours after Trump arrived at his Bedminster Golf Property in New Jersey.
Trump also targeted Republican former Representative Liz Cheney, former Biden administration National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and Russia expert Fiona Hill, who had worked in the National Security Council during his first administration.
Additionally, National Security lawyer Mark Zaid and former Republican lawmaker Adam Kinzinger also lost their security clearances.
Trump had previously revoked former President Joe Biden's security clearance, which resulted in the cancellation of Biden's traditional right to access U.S. intelligence information.
Traditionally, former U.S. presidents receive intelligence briefings to provide advice to the current president on national security and foreign policy. In 2021, Biden revoked Trump's security clearance when Trump was the former president.
