Saifur Rahman: Dhaka,  Rokeya Haider, a popular radio and multimedia female journalist who is the head of the Bengali section of Voyage of America, has been the pride of Bengali women journalism for 40 years. Although Voice of America was founded in 1942, Rokeya Haider has been a proud journalist for over 40 years. Friday, May 29 this year was the last working day of Rokeya Haider’s 40-year journey in VOA. This brave woman has moved forward with confidence in the midst of various adversities in her long journey. Talent, qualifications and professionalism have brought her success. In the international arena, from 1972 to 1974, the Los Angeles Olympics, the 1994 World Cup, have been dominated by football.

Journalism can be possible even with sari, the only example of this, which is Rokeya Haider. In 2011, Rokeya Haider became the head of the Bangla section of VOA, an internationally trusted multimedia company. She moved to Washington DC in 1971 at the invitation of Voice of America. Not only reading news, she had to take full responsibility of journalism. She took over the responsibility of managing editor of Bangla department. The busy journalist gets involved in social work whenever she gets time. In recognition of this, she received the American Presidential Volunteer Award from the then President George W. Bush in 1990. In her journalistic career, she collected and supplied Mother Teresa interviews, World Cup football and Olympic news directly from the field. Rokeya Haider has received the Voice of America’s Program Award for her outstanding performances on various topics, including the news of the campaign against child labor in South Asia and the tragic incident of acid throwing in Bangladesh. She started her journalism through radio broadcasting. Then the television. Now on the website page, this woman with such personality is spreading on social media all over the world. Apart from her professional activities, Rokeya Haider is also involved in various cultural events in the United States. She is seen in all the events of International Bengali Festival Book Fair, Rabindra Nazrul Conference, Fobana, Bangla School. She has no shortage of love even from thousands of kilometers away from Bangladesh.she has bound to the people of the country with such compassion. The solution to any human problem. This success has come today because she was responsible for her own talent, qualifications and profession. Today Rokeya Haider is a proud woman of Bangladesh. Although Rokeya Haider is a daughter of Jessore, she was born and raised in Calcutta on the basis of her father’s career. She is the third of six children of father Abubakar Faraji and mother Meherunnesa. Elder sister Sufia Amin was once a renowned Nazrul musician. She started her education at St. John’s School, Calcutta. Later she studied at Eden College and did her Masters in Political Science from Dhaka University.

Then in the sixties she had to move to Chittagong for the work of her husband Haider Taki. Rokeya Haider’s radio career began in Kolkata with her grandmother holding a microphone in her children’s hands, presenting dramas and programs on the radio while she was studying in school and college. In the 1960s, he worked as a regular announcer on Chittagong Betar. She started her career as a newsreader in 1986 by reading regional news on Chittagong Betar. However, professional journalism began in 1984 with regular reading of news on Dhaka Betar and TV. Rokeya Haider reached the pinnacle of fame in a short period of time due to her clear pronunciation, strong voice and self-confident attitude. When private television did not come to Bangladesh, the Voice of America radio program was very popular to everyone.
