Bangladesh Women's Cricket Team Tours West Indies to Secure World Cup Spot - Captain Nigar Sultana Joty

The Bangladesh women's cricket team, led by captain Nigar Sultana Joty, is set to tour the West Indies with the goal of securing a direct spot in the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup in India. To confirm their World Cup ticket, the team needs to win at least two of the three matches in the ODI series against the West Indies. During a press conference on Saturday, Joty emphasized that their sole objective is to secure their place in the World Cup.

“Our only goal is to secure four points and ensure our spot in the World Cup. Our team played well in the last series. We need to bring our best cricket again this time. There’s no need to overthink the equation; winning the matches will solve everything,” said Joty.

Although the West Indies are a formidable team, particularly on their home ground, Bangladesh holds the seventh spot in the points table, while the West Indies are ninth. However, Joty acknowledged that the home advantage could pose a significant challenge.

“It won’t be easy for us on the Caribbean grounds. Every tour has its challenges, but staying positive is crucial. Our plan is clear—the best performance from both our bowlers and batters will determine the outcome,” she added.

The Bangladesh team has some knowledge of the wicket conditions in St. Kitts, where the series will be held, from their previous tour in 2018. Joty expressed optimism about utilizing that experience.

“We have some understanding of the St. Kitts wicket. We played here in 2018. Although most of the players from that tour are no longer in the team, our preparation is good,” said Joty.

The captain also mentioned that the wicket might favor batters, which could be advantageous for their team. “Spin doesn’t play a big role in St. Kitts. This can be positive for our batters. If our batters can provide a good start, it will make the job easier for our bowlers. Currently, our combination of batting, bowling, and fielding is in good shape,” she added.

The team departs on January 13

The Bangladesh women's cricket team will depart for the West Indies on January 13, aiming to fulfill their World Cup aspirations. All three matches of the series will take place in St. Kitts.

With captain Nigar Sultana Joty at the helm, the team is brimming with confidence. The entire nation eagerly awaits their performance, hoping they will secure their spot in the World Cup through excellent play.
