Beijing, January 8: More than 400 people trapped under rubble in Tibet’s earthquake have been rescued, but many are still missing, according to Chinese officials. The powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday has caused a rising death toll, and the quake has destroyed thousands of homes in Tibet's Shigatse region.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in Tingri, located in Tibet, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak. The quake was also felt in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. Rescue teams are continuing their work in the higher regions of Tibet, retrieving more survivors from the rubble, where temperatures have fallen below freezing, with nighttime temperatures dropping to -10°C.
