Ottawa, January 6 – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced his resignation as the leader of the Liberal Party. However, he will continue to serve as Prime Minister until a new leader is selected.

In a press conference on Monday, Trudeau said, "I have fought for this country and for you. Every morning, waking up as Prime Minister, I have been inspired by the resilience, generosity, and determination of Canadians."

Trudeau highlighted his administration's support for Ukraine and his policies during the COVID-19 pandemic as significant achievements. He said, "We have supported each other, stood strong with Ukraine and our democracy, fought against climate change, and prepared our economy for the future."

While announcing his resignation, Trudeau expressed regret about Canada's election process. He said, "If I have one regret, especially as we approach this election, it would be that we were unable to change the way we elect our governments, allowing people to select a second or third choice on the same ballot."

Trudeau stated that Canada's Parliament will be suspended until March 24 while a new leader is chosen. He remarked, "After the longest session of a minority parliament in this country's history, Parliament has been paralyzed for months."

Trudeau added, "I have expressed my intention to resign as the party leader and Prime Minister, but I will remain in office until a new leader is elected."

The 53-year-old Trudeau said, "I am a fighter, and I have never backed down from a fight. But I have always been driven by my love for Canada, my desire to serve Canadians, and what is in the best interest of Canadians. They deserve a real choice in the next election, and it has become clear to me that with the internal battles, I cannot be the one to carry the Liberal banner into the next election."

Trudeau will continue to serve as a caretaker Prime Minister until a new leader is elected.
