The U.S. State Department has informally notified Congress of a proposed $8 billion arms deal for Israel. The package will include ammunition for fighter jets and attack helicopters, along with artillery shells and several new weapons, according to a report.
According to Axios news, the arms package includes air-to-air missiles for fighter jets and attack helicopters, which will be used to counter airborne threats, especially drones. It also includes 155mm artillery shells and Hellfire AGM-114 missiles.
The deal includes small-diameter bombs, JDAM tail kits (which convert "dumb bombs" into precision-guided munitions), 500-pound (230kg) warheads, and bomb fuses, according to two confidential sources.
This deal, which would be the Biden administration's final arms package, requires approval from both the House of Representatives and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
