Syrians prepare to welcome the new year without Assad's rule

For the first time in over five decades, Syria is entering the new year without the Assad family in power.

Syria is a country with many ethnic and religious communities, including Kurds, Armenians, Assyrians, Christians, Druze, Alawite Shia, and Arab Sunnis, with Sunnis forming the majority of the Muslim population.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which led the offensive to overthrow former President Bashar al-Assad's regime, has promised to protect the rights and freedoms of minorities in the country.
