William Webster, Former Head of FBI and CIA, Expresses Concerns Over Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard's Nominations

William Webster, the former head of both the FBI and CIA, has called on the Senate to reject the nominations of Donald Trump's candidates for FBI Director, Kash Patel, and Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard. He raised concerns about their lack of experience and Patel’s political partisanship, which he argues makes them unqualified for these roles.

In an open letter, Webster warned the Senate, saying, "These important positions require nonpartisan leadership and experience, which are critical for the safety of the American people." He added, "There is a need for thorough scrutiny during the nomination review process."

Concerns Over Kash Patel’s Partisanship

Webster expressed particular concern over Patel's candidacy for FBI Director. He noted, "Patel’s close political relationship with Trump could undermine the impartiality of the FBI and the rule of law." Patel, a close ally of Trump, has proposed plans to close the FBI's Washington headquarters and turn it into a museum about the so-called "deep state."

Lack of Experience in Tulsi Gabbard’s Candidacy

Webster also raised concerns about Tulsi Gabbard’s lack of experience, pointing out that she has no intelligence background despite being a former congresswoman and presidential candidate. He stated, "Gabbard's lack of intelligence experience could pose risks to U.S. security and global partnerships."

Gabbard's nomination has raised concerns in the intelligence community, particularly due to her past interactions with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and her criticism of U.S. support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.

Webster’s letter represents a rare intervention, reaffirming his stance on the need for nonpartisan leadership in intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
