East Timor President Commends Dr. Muhammad Yunus' Exceptional Qualifications
East Timor President José Ramos-Horta has praised Dr. Muhammad Yunus' remarkable qualifications, describing him as possibly the only leader in the world with such exceptional academic credentials. Speaking at a joint press conference at the Chief Advisor’s office on Sunday afternoon, Ramos-Horta said, "Dr. Muhammad Yunus has over a hundred degrees, which is astonishing. He is probably the only leader in the world with such distinguished and powerful academic qualifications."
He further added, "In the coming days, we are eager to strengthen economic and trade relations with Bangladesh."
It was also reported that East Timor and Bangladesh have signed an agreement and a memorandum of understanding. These include a visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders, as well as a bilateral consultation memorandum.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Adviser M. Touhid Hossain had a courtesy meeting with East Timor's President. Tomorrow, Monday, he will meet with East Timor's President, José Ramos-Horta, to discuss further bilateral matters. He will also visit the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar to pay homage to Bangladesh’s Liberation War heroes.
President José Ramos-Horta arrived in Dhaka at 10:30 PM on Saturday night for a four-day visit. He was welcomed at the airport by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. This morning, a smartly turned-out military honor guard at the Senakunja provided Ramos-Horta with a Guard of Honor. Dr. Muhammad Yunus was also present during the ceremony.
