Arakan Army's Capture of Rakhine State: Tension at Teknaf Border, Bangladesh on Edge

Reports indicate that the Arakan Army's takeover of Rakhine State and its control over the entire 270-kilometer Myanmar-Bangladesh border have caused fear among locals and Rohingyas in Cox's Bazar.

Due to security concerns, the Teknaf Upazila administration has imposed restrictions on movement along the Naf River, which flows between Teknaf and Myanmar territory.

As a result, boats transporting people and supplies between Teknaf and Saint Martin’s Island did not operate on Thursday.

According to international media reports, intense clashes have been ongoing between Myanmar’s military junta and the Arakan Army, an ethnic armed group.

Locals have reported no bombings since Sunday, but military aircraft frequently fly over the border area.

Meanwhile, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Coast Guard have stated that they remain vigilant to prevent any illegal crossings into Bangladesh.

Rohingya leaders in Cox’s Bazar, concerned about the long-awaited repatriation process, expressed their worries. They said, "We want to sit with the Arakan Army and discuss the possibility of returning to our homeland."
