Trump Calls for Immediate Ceasefire Between Ukraine and Russia
Tensions between Ukraine and Russia have escalated again ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration. Before leaving office, U.S. President Joe Biden approved several billion dollars in military aid to Ukraine. However, there is uncertainty about whether this assistance will continue under the Trump administration.
Battlefield Preparations
Ukrainian soldiers, mindful of the potential changes under Trump's arrival, have vowed to continue fighting. A drone company commander fighting in Russia's Kursk region stated, "We will be quickly destroyed once our weapons and ammunition run out. But as long as we have supplies, we will keep fighting."
Biden's Last-Minute Assistance
Since Trump's electoral victory last month, the Biden administration has announced more than $2 billion in assistance to Ukraine. In total, over $62 billion in military aid has been sent since the war began in 2022. Additionally, the process of finalizing a $50 billion loan agreement from seized Russian assets is underway.
Trump's Position
Trump has recently called for an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, suggesting that Ukraine should prepare for reduced U.S. support. He referred to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky as "a showman" and hinted at a potential decrease in U.S. assistance.
Zelensky's Appeal
Zelensky stated that Russia’s withdrawal from global bases proves their military weakness. He added, "To stop the war, we must be militarily strong."
Progress of the War
Ukraine’s recent use of long-range missiles has put pressure on Russia, but Russia is advancing with new strategies. Experts say Russia has focused its maximum resources on the war in Ukraine.
North Korea’s Involvement
Putin has included North Korean troops in the Ukraine war. In response, Biden has authorized Ukraine to use more effective missiles inside Russia.
Analysts are concerned that Trump’s proposed ceasefire could occur on Putin’s terms, potentially giving Russia an opportunity to rebuild and weakening Ukraine’s position.
