The California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in a report titled "The State of California Universities in 2024" mentioned the incidents of Islamophobia in universities and educational institutions in this state. Citing Iran's Shabestan News Agency, the report by Perstudy said: 49 percent of Muslim students in 87 universities and higher education institutions in the state of California, USA, are victims of harassment and discrimination. According to the report, 37 percent of Muslim students said that educational staff discriminated against them because of their religious identity.

Of the students who were discriminated against, 47 percent said that they did not want to report their complaints to the university administration and 36 percent said that they could not freely express their political opinions on university campuses.
It is worth noting that since the protests that began at Columbia University in solidarity with the Palestinians in mid-April and after anti-Israel protests spread to many universities around the world, American universities have begun to take strict measures against student protesters.
American police have arrested many students during the protests in support of Palestine and even tried to remove the hijabs of some arrested Muslim students.
As students and teachers protested against Israel's crimes in Gaza, representatives of the US Congress ordered the heads of three universities - Harvard, Pennsylvania and MIT - to be held accountable. The accountability measure was taken after the US Congress passed a resolution condemning the protests by students at American universities in support of Israel.
