Australia, Bangladesh Deepen Strategic Partnership with Focus on Trade, Climate and People-to-People Ties

Australia and Bangladesh have reaffirmed their shared commitment to building a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, as senior leaders from both countries discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle met with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, where both sides reviewed the growing partnership between the two nations and explored new opportunities for collaboration.

During the meeting, they discussed expanding cooperation in trade and investment, accelerating joint efforts on climate change adaptation and resilience, and strengthening the ever-growing people-to-people connections that continue to serve as the foundation of the Australia-Bangladesh relationship.

The discussions also highlighted several emerging areas where the two countries could deepen cooperation in the coming years. These include increasing Australian investment in Bangladesh’s manufacturing, infrastructure and renewable energy sectors, expanding educational partnerships and scholarship opportunities for Bangladeshi students, enhancing cooperation in vocational skills development and workforce training, strengthening maritime and regional security dialogue, promoting agricultural technology and food security, and increasing collaboration in digital innovation, ICT, and the blue economy.

Officials also emphasized the importance of closer cooperation in addressing regional challenges, supporting sustainable economic growth, and promoting a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

With Bangladesh’s rapidly growing economy and Australia’s expertise in education, technology, clean energy and sustainable development, both countries see significant potential to elevate their relationship into a more comprehensive strategic partnership in the years ahead.
