US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the United States is prepared to resume military action and reimpose a strict blockade on Iran if Tehran fails to meet its commitments under the agreement signed yesterday.

Speaking in Brussels after a meeting of NATO defense ministers, Hegseth stated that President Donald Trump had made it clear that Washington would act again if Iran did not comply with the terms of the deal.

“The president has pointed out that we will be prepared to recommence if, underneath the timeline of these talks, Iran does not do what it says it’s going to do,” Hegseth said.

He added that if Iran failed to comply, “we’re more than able to reimpose an ironclad blockade.”

Hegseth also criticised several NATO allies for what he described as inadequate support during the conflict with Iran. According to him, the United States had sought access to European bases and ports for operations targeting Iranian threats in the Middle East but encountered resistance from some allies.

He argued that some countries declined to cooperate, became entangled in legal debates, or publicly criticised US actions despite being unwilling or unable to undertake similar measures themselves.

Calling their response “shameful,” Hegseth said such decisions put American service members at unnecessary risk by denying predictable access and overflight permissions that, in his view, should never have been in question.
