Republicans Stand Firm: “No Deal for Illegal Alien Funding,” Says Trump After 43-Day Shutdown 🇺🇸
The White House and Republican leaders have accused Democrats of prolonging the 43-day government shutdown to pressure Congress into approving billions in taxpayer funds for programs benefiting undocumented immigrants.
President Donald Trump, speaking from the Oval Office, said, “For 43 days, Democrats held the American people hostage — trying to extort billions for illegal aliens. Today’s message is clear: Republicans will not give in.”
The shutdown, which disrupted multiple federal agencies, furloughed government workers, and halted public services, became one of the longest in U.S. history. The president said reopening the government marked a “victory for American taxpayers” and vowed to strengthen border security without compromising U.S. sovereignty.
Republican lawmakers echoed Trump’s remarks, emphasizing that protecting national borders remains their top priority. “America’s money should serve Americans first,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Democrats, however, accused the administration of “political theater,” arguing that humanitarian programs should not be labeled as “illegal funding.”
