At the G7 summit in Rome, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio pushed back against growing criticism of recent U.S. military strikes in the Caribbean. The operations, carried out last week, targeted what Washington described as “armed networks threatening maritime security and regional order.”

European and Canadian diplomats expressed concern over the legality and timing of the strikes, warning they could escalate tensions across the region. However, Rubio defended the actions as “precise, justified, and essential for the safety of American citizens and our partners.”

Rubio added that the U.S. remains committed to diplomacy and regional cooperation but “will not hesitate to act when its sovereignty or allies are under threat.”
The remarks sparked intense debate at the summit, underscoring divisions among G7 members over Washington’s increasingly assertive foreign policy stance.
