Saudi Arabia is among the most jubilant over Donald Trump’s re-election as U.S. President. In a gesture of goodwill, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called Trump at midnight to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and advancing peace efforts.

Early Wednesday morning, Prince Salman extended his congratulations to Trump and emphasized restoring the strong relations that marked Trump’s first term. Central to their conversation was the Abraham Accords, highlighting the prospect of normalizing Saudi-Israeli relations.

During his previous tenure, Trump bolstered U.S.-Saudi ties, but tensions arose under the Biden administration, particularly following the 2018 killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Saudi Arabia now anticipates a return to better relations under Trump.

Trump had previously hinted at this in an interview with the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya news channel, stating that one of his priorities would be expanding the Abraham Accords. These agreements, signed during his first term in 2020, established diplomatic relations between Israel, Bahrain, and the UAE.

Trump remarked, “U.S.-Saudi relations can never be great under someone like Biden, but with me, it will be fantastic. I have great respect for Saudi Arabia.”

Meanwhile, amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and escalating tensions in Lebanon, Riyadh has issued a firm message about future Saudi-Israeli relations. Saudi officials stated that normalization depends on the establishment of a Palestinian state.

As the Gaza crisis unfolds, the world watches to see how the U.S. will navigate these complex issues and foster peace between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
