For decades, Palestinians have struggled for the establishment of an independent state. However, ongoing disunity among Arab nations has made the realization of a sovereign Palestine increasingly difficult. In October last year, Palestinian fighters launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, which prompted a heavy military response targeting Gaza.

Israel’s relentless assault has left Gaza in ruins, with daily airstrikes claiming the lives of countless civilians. Despite their enduring struggle, the dream of an independent Palestinian state remains out of reach.

Addressing the issue of Palestinian statehood on Monday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar made a statement that is likely to shatter Palestinian hopes. Speaking to journalists in Jerusalem, Sa’ar said, “The establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state is not realistic in today’s context. We must be pragmatic.”

When asked whether the formation of a Palestinian state could be part of a broader effort to normalize ties with Arab nations, Sa’ar maintained his stance, emphasizing the need for practical solutions over idealistic aspirations.

His remarks have drawn criticism from Palestinian leaders, who view them as a setback to their long-standing aspirations for independence and peace.
