[Paris, July 25, 2025] — In a major step toward establishing peace in the Middle East, France is set to take a decisive move. French President Emmanuel Macron announced today that France will formally recognize Palestine as an independent state at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session in September.
President Macron stated:
"France has a historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East. It is from this perspective that I have decided France will recognize the State of Palestine."
Expressing deep concern over the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the Israeli military offensive, Macron said:
"Immediate action is necessary to halt the war in Gaza. A ceasefire, the release of hostages, and large-scale humanitarian assistance must be our top priorities."
He further emphasized:
"We must ensure the dismantling of Hamas, guarantee Gaza’s security, and support its reconstruction. At the same time, a sustainable Palestinian state must be established — a state that moves away from the path of past destruction, recognizes Israel, and becomes a partner in regional security."
Macron stressed:
"There is no alternative to peace. Peace is possible. The French people want peace in the Middle East. It is up to us — the French, Israelis, Palestinians, Europeans, and our international partners — to prove that peace is achievable."
Referring to his recent discussions with the President of Palestine, Macron added:
"In respect of the promises he made to me, I have written to him confirming our firm determination to move forward. On the basis of trust, clarity, and commitment, we will ensure the triumph of peace."
This announcement comes at a time when the Israeli military offensive in Gaza and the resulting humanitarian crisis have sparked global concern. Several European nations have already called for the recognition of Palestine. France’s stance is being regarded as a significant milestone in international diplomacy. Analysts believe this could inject new momentum into future Middle East peace efforts.
