[Moscow, July 24, 2025] — A passenger plane carrying 50 people that went missing in Russia’s eastern Amur region has crashed, the country's Emergency Situations Ministry has confirmed. According to footage from the crash site and initial reports from rescuers, there is little to no hope of finding any survivors.

The emergency department stated that the Angara Airlines aircraft, an Antonov AN-24 model, was en route from the city of Blagoveshchensk in the Amur region to the town of Tynda near the Chinese border. However, it disappeared from radar just 16 kilometers from its destination.

Amur regional governor Vasily Orlov said that “all necessary measures” have been taken to locate the aircraft. He also noted that five children were among the passengers.

Shortly after, the Russian Emergency Ministry reported that a Russian civil aviation helicopter had spotted the burning wreckage of the plane. Initial reports suggest that no one survived.

According to the TASS news agency, citing the Amur Civil Defense Center, the plane was found near a mountain around 16 kilometers (10 miles) from Tynda. Footage from the site showed the aircraft’s wreckage engulfed in flames in a dense forest area.

Emergency officials said they are investigating whether bad weather, pilot error, or technical failure caused the crash.

The Antonov-24 aircraft used by Angara Airlines is nearly 50 years old and has a history of technical issues.

In July 2019, an AN-24RV skidded off the runway while landing at Nizhneangarsk Airport, killing two crew members.
In 2011, another Angara AN-24 crashed into the Ob River in Siberia, resulting in the deaths of seven passengers.
