"If Necessary, We Will Strike Iran's WMD Nuclear Facilities Again" – President Donald Trump
Washington, July 22, 2025 —
President Donald Trump has defended last month's U.S. strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, stating, “We will do it again if necessary.”
On Monday, he wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social:
“We’ll do it again, if we need to!”
Trump made the remarks shortly after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi admitted that three of Iran’s nuclear facilities had suffered “severe damage.”
Trump wrote:
“Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said: ‘The level of damage is extremely severe; these have been destroyed.’ Of course they have — I said they would be.”
He further claimed that U.S. pilots had “completely destroyed” the targeted nuclear sites and criticized CNN, accusing the network of downplaying the success of the operation. Trump even called for the dismissal of a CNN reporter.
CNN, citing a preliminary U.S. intelligence assessment, reported that the strikes delayed Iran’s nuclear program by several months but did not completely destroy it.
Araghchi made his comments during an interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier, stating:
“Our facilities were damaged — severely damaged… Our Atomic Energy Organization is currently assessing the extent of the damage.”
He added that Iran would not abandon its uranium enrichment program.
“We cannot give up enrichment, because it is a major achievement of our scientists. It’s not just a scientific matter anymore — it’s a matter of national pride,” said Araghchi.
These remarks come at a time when new nuclear talks between Iran and the E3 nations — the UK, France, and Germany — are set to begin Friday in Istanbul, Turkey.
Previously, Iran and the United States were engaged in talks mediated by Oman, but those collapsed after a surprise Israeli strike on June 13, which triggered 12 days of war.
Subsequently, on June 22, the United States joined the war alongside Israel and conducted strikes on three of Iran’s nuclear facilities.
