[Islamabad, July 21, 2025] — Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has expressed deep sorrow over the deadly crash of a Bangladesh Air Force jet in Dhaka’s Uttara area that resulted in numerous casualties. He extended solidarity with the people and government of Bangladesh and assured them of Pakistan’s support.
In a message posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Ishaq Dar wrote:
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of precious lives in the plane crash over an educational institution in Dhaka. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those injured.”
He further added:
“In this tragic moment, my sincere sympathies are with the government, leadership, and people of Bangladesh.”
At 1:18 PM on Monday, a Chinese-made F-7 BGI training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed onto the Milestone School and College building in the Diabari area of Uttara, Dhaka. At least 20 people, including the pilot, were killed in the crash. Around 171 others were injured—many of them burned—and are currently being treated at Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, CMH, and other hospitals.
Considering the severity of the tragedy, the Bangladesh government has declared Tuesday, July 22, as a national day of mourning. National flags have been lowered to half-mast across the country, and special prayers are being held at mosques, temples, churches, and other religious institutions for the souls of the deceased.
Units from the fire service, army, and air force are conducting rescue operations at the crash site. A high-level investigation committee has been formed to determine the cause of the crash, which is initially being attributed to possible technical faults, mechanical failure, or issues during takeoff.
