[Istanbul, July 12, 2025] – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared on Saturday that the disarmament of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) marks a historic turning point, signaling the beginning of a new era of unity and strength for Turkey.

Speaking at the 32nd Consultation and Evaluation Meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) held in Ankara, Erdoğan stated:

“Today is a new day in history, a new chapter. The doors of a great and powerful Turkey — the ‘Century of Türkiye’ — have now fully opened.”
He added:
“This is the dawn of a great and strong Turkey.”

Reflecting on Turkey’s long battle against terrorism, Erdoğan said that the nearly 47-year curse of PKK terrorism has effectively come to an end as of Friday — or so it is hoped.

Describing the PKK’s disarmament as a victory for Turkey, Erdoğan emphasized:

“This victory is not just for Turks — it is a victory for Kurds, for Arabs — for all 86 million of our citizens.”

Highlighting a vision of regional unity, the President said:

“Today, the spirit of Malazgirt, the alliance of Jerusalem, and the soul of our War of Independence are being reborn.”

Regarding the newly launched ‘Terror-Free Turkey’ initiative, Erdoğan clarified that the process is not the result of bargaining, compromise, or negotiation.

Stressing the importance of national unity, he declared:

“The Republic of Turkey is our common home, our shared roof. We — all 86 million of us — are one, indivisible, and brothers forever.”

He also noted that the initiative extends beyond Turkey’s borders, stating that it is not only aimed at the Kurdish population within Turkey, but also includes active engagement with Kurdish communities in Iraq and Syria.

President Erdoğan’s declaration signals a major political shift in Turkey, suggesting the end of a decades-long armed conflict and the beginning of a new path toward national unity.
