Countries Aligning with BRICS’ ‘Anti-American Policy’ Will Face 10% Tariff – President Donald Trump
Washington | July 7, 2025
In a sharply worded warning, President Donald Trump has issued a trade threat directed at the BRICS alliance and its supporters. He announced that any country aligning itself with what he called BRICS’ “anti-American policy” will face an additional 10% import tariff from the United States. Trump emphasized clearly, “There will be no exceptions.”
The statement came in a post on Truth Social, where Trump referenced a declaration signed by India that strongly criticized the current U.S. import tariff policy on behalf of the BRICS bloc.
Trump wrote:
“Any country that aligns itself with the anti-American stance of BRICS will be subject to an additional 10% tariff. There are no exceptions to this policy. Thank you for your attention!”
He also declared that beginning Monday, July 7 at 12:00 PM (U.S. time), the U.S. government would begin issuing “tariff letters” to countries around the world. In Trump’s words:
“I am pleased to announce that starting at 12 noon on Monday, the United States will begin sending tariff letters and/or tariff agreements.”
Trump has previously issued strong warnings to BRICS member nations. Notably, he had threatened to impose tariffs of up to 100% if BRICS attempts to launch a new currency alternative to the U.S. dollar.
Analysts view this announcement as part of Trump’s broader reelection strategy. He has long advocated for an “America First” trade agenda, and sees aggressive tariff policies as a key tool for maintaining U.S. dominance in global commerce.
Experts caution, however, that Trump’s latest move may not only strain ties with BRICS countries but could also spark new tensions with strategically important partners like India, South Africa, and Brazil.
