Geneva, June 21, 2025 — British Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized, “The only effective way to resolve the ongoing nuclear conflict with Israel is to sit at the negotiation table with Iran and the United States.” He made this remark after a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister in Geneva, where diplomatic efforts to ease nuclear tensions were prioritized.
David Lammy is scheduled to return to London tonight. During his Geneva visit, he also met with foreign policy chiefs from France, Germany, and the European Union. Before this meeting, he held discussions in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Whitaker.
At the meeting in Geneva with European leaders, Mr. Lammy conveyed a message on behalf of the United States. The message stated that potential U.S. military actions targeting Iran are “real and imminent,” but “the diplomatic path remains open.”
During the meeting, European leaders strongly criticized Iran’s military nuclear program and stressed the importance of reaching a peaceful resolution through dialogue. European diplomats expressed willingness to re-engage in talks with Iran, although the time and place for these talks have not yet been finalized.
However, Iran’s Foreign Minister clearly stated in the meeting, “Tehran will not enter into any talks with the United States as long as Israeli attacks continue.”
In response, European leaders said, “The best way to ensure a ceasefire is to seek a solution through negotiations.”
David Lammy has announced plans to meet again with his U.S. partners later this week.
Analysts say that at this moment, European diplomatic efforts play a crucial role in easing global nuclear tensions, and the initiative led by David Lammy to bring parties back to the negotiation table is considered a significant step.
