Putin-Xi Jinping Phone Call: Dialogue on Iran-Israel Ceasefire in the Middle East
Moscow, June 20, 2025
Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the need for a joint effort to bring an end to the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel in the Middle East. In a recent phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Xi stated that their most “urgent task” now is to actively push for a ceasefire in the conflict.
According to a statement released by the Chinese presidency, Xi said:
“The parties to the conflict, especially Israel, must cease hostilities immediately, so the situation does not deteriorate further and the war does not expand.”
He further added:
“Major powers with significant influence over the conflicting parties”—a clear reference to the United States—“should play a constructive role in stopping the war and bringing all parties back to the negotiating table.”
While Xi Jinping refrained from blaming any particular side directly, China’s stance became clearer at the diplomatic level.
In a separate conversation between China’s top diplomat Wang Yi and the Foreign Minister of Oman, Beijing stated that Israel’s recent attacks on Iran constitute a violation of international law and norms and pose a direct threat to Iran’s sovereignty.
This phone call and diplomatic messaging have come at a time when the Iran-Israel conflict is causing deep concern globally, prompting world leaders to hold urgent talks to bring the escalating violence under control.
