“Israel’s Attack on Iran Could Trigger Global Instability” – King Abdullah of Jordan
[Strasbourg, June 18, 2025]
Israel’s military offensive against Iran could unleash dangerous instability not only in the Middle East but across the globe, warned Jordan’s King Abdullah II. In an emotional address to the European Parliament on Tuesday, the king urged the international community to take urgent action in response to the escalating crisis.
He stated:
“As Israel expands its attacks to include Iran, there’s no telling where the boundaries of this battleground will end. And that, my friends, is a serious threat to people around the world.”
For the past five days, Israel and Iran have been engaged in reciprocal strikes. Israel claims its actions are aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons—an accusation Iran firmly denies.
King Abdullah emphasized that this latest escalation is not merely a military conflict but the result of deeper and long-standing regional tensions, the ongoing war in Gaza, and the collapse of nuclear diplomacy.
“This crisis is rapidly moving toward a full-scale war,” he cautioned.
On the situation in Gaza, the king expressed strong outrage.
“What version of our humanity accepts this as normal? What conscience allows famine to be used as a weapon against children? How can anyone justify attacks on medical workers, journalists, or civilians seeking refuge in camps?”
He called on the international community to take an active role in securing a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“This conflict must end,” he said, “and the only realistic solution is a just peace—built on international law and mutual recognition.”
Since the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, Israel has carried out extensive military operations in Gaza, leaving much of the region in ruins. According to the latest reports, over 55,000 people—many of them Palestinian civilians—have been killed in the conflict.
King Abdullah’s remarks stirred deep emotion among members of the European Parliament, who expressed grave concern over the deteriorating situation and emphasized the need for united diplomatic efforts.
