Tel Aviv, June 17, 2025 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview with ABC on Monday that he does not dismiss the idea of assassinating Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

When asked if Israel would target Khamenei, he replied,
“Israel is doing whatever is necessary.”

When journalists reminded him of previous reports that President Donald Trump had rejected Israel’s proposal to kill Khamenei over concerns it would escalate the war, Netanyahu said,
“That will not escalate the war; it will end the war.”

He added,
“This ‘perpetual war’ is what Iran wants. They have brought us to the brink of a nuclear war. What Israel is doing is ending this aggression—and that is only possible when we stand up to this monstrous power.”

Netanyahu stated that the Iranian nuclear scientists killed by Israel were “essentially Hitler’s nuclear team.” He called on the United States to support Israel’s war effort.

He said,
“Today they have looked toward Tel Aviv; tomorrow they will look toward New York. I understand ‘America First,’ but I don’t understand ‘America’s death.’”

Dismissing Iran’s calls for a ceasefire as hypocrisy, Netanyahu said,
“I am not surprised. They always stage this fake negotiation drama—lying, cheating, and stalling America. We have highly reliable intelligence about this.”

He described these talks as a tactic for Iran to buy more time to stockpile nuclear and ballistic weapons.

When asked about some isolationist views in the U.S. that believe America should withdraw from Israel’s war, Netanyahu responded,
“We are not only fighting our enemy; we are fighting your enemy too. They chant slogans like ‘Death to Israel, death to America.’ We are simply standing in their way. This war could one day reach America.”

He called this attitude “complete blindness.”

On how long the war will last, Netanyahu said,
“The war will continue as long as we cannot eliminate Iran’s satanic threat.”

He added,
“Peace talks will only be possible when Iran shows it sincerely wants to end the terrorist axis and stops its nuclear activities across the Middle East.”
