Iran Wants to Quickly End Military Tensions with Israel — President Donald Trump
Canada, June 17, 2025 —
Iran desires a swift end to the ongoing war-like situation with Israel, said U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking to reporters at the start of a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday, Trump stated, “I would say this war is not one Iran is winning. We should talk to them, and that should begin now—before it’s too late.”
He further mentioned that Iran wants to come to the negotiating table and that this should happen “without a moment’s delay.” However, he made it clear that he will not sign any joint G7 statement related to the Israel-Iran conflict.
G7 Draft Statement Calls for Monitoring and Peace
CBS News reported that the draft statement calls for keeping Iran under close watch, ensuring the protection of civilian lives, and reiterates a commitment to peace. According to unnamed U.S. officials cited by CBS, Trump remains firm in his decision not to approve the statement.
Tehran Seeks Oman and Qatar as Mediators
According to journalist Amichai Stein of The Jerusalem Post, Iran has already requested Oman and Qatar to mediate with the United States. The goal is to halt Israeli attacks and restart nuclear negotiations.
Sources say top Gulf leaders and diplomats have been engaged over the past few days in phone dialogues with Tehran, Washington, and other involved parties to prevent the conflict from spiraling out of control.
Saudi Arabia’s Quiet Peace Initiative
Saudi Arabia is also reportedly working quietly on a ceasefire framework aimed at creating an acceptable environment for dialogue.
An Iranian source indicates that if a ceasefire is implemented, Iran could become more flexible on the nuclear issue.
European Efforts
Meanwhile, foreign ministers of France, the United Kingdom, and Germany have indicated to Reuters, via a European diplomat, the possibility of a conference call with Iran’s foreign minister to discuss the situation.
