In the wake of a series of recent Israeli military attacks, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held an important phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which he stated that Tehran has no intention of acquiring nuclear weapons.
According to an official statement issued by the Iranian presidency, “The Islamic Republic of Iran has consistently maintained its position that it does not seek to obtain nuclear weapons and is prepared to provide necessary assurances to international organizations on this matter.”
The statement further noted that President Pezeshkian conveyed this message directly to President Putin during their phone call.
This discussion took place within the context of ongoing strategic coordination between Tehran and Moscow. In addition to the nuclear issue, the two leaders also discussed the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, regional stability, and bilateral cooperation.
Experts say that Iran’s declaration comes at a diplomatically significant moment, amid growing international concerns following Iranian attacks on Israeli nuclear facilities. The message is seen as a calculated move to reassure not only Russia but also the broader international community.
