[Ahmedabad, India | June 13, 2025] — Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed deep sorrow and sympathy following the devastating passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. After reports emerged detailing significant loss of life and property damage, President Xi sent condolence messages to Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that in an official message, President Xi said:
“I am deeply saddened to hear of this tragic accident. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, I offer my heartfelt condolences for the lives lost and express sympathy to the injured and bereaved families.”
Additionally, in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the spokesperson mentioned that President Xi conveyed China’s solidarity with India during this difficult time.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang also sent a condolence message to Prime Minister Modi, expressing sympathy for the Indian people.
“We stand in solidarity with the people of India in this challenging moment and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” he wrote.
The crash involved Air India Flight AI-171, which met with a catastrophic accident while attempting to land at Ahmedabad Airport. Of the 242 passengers onboard, many were killed, and several others remain hospitalized with serious injuries. India’s civil aviation authority has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
