Jordan and Spain Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement in Support of Palestinian Statehood

Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Thursday witnessed the signing of a declaration announcing the formation of a strategic partnership between the two countries.

According to the Jordan News Agency, the agreement aims to enhance cooperation in various sectors including economic, trade, social, cultural, and defense fields. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation and an extradition treaty were also signed.

During his visit to Madrid, King Abdullah met with King Felipe VI of Spain, where he praised Spain’s support for Palestinian rights, its efforts to promote peace in the Middle East, and its commitment to halting the war in the Gaza Strip.

King Abdullah highlighted the significance of Spain’s recognition of the State of Palestine, and affirmed Jordan’s efforts to garner more European support for Arab initiatives aimed at rebuilding Gaza and assisting its residents without displacing them.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez emphasized that Jordan plays a vital role in supporting the Palestinian people, and stressed that the ongoing war in Gaza must come to an immediate end.

Also present in the discussions with King Abdullah were Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Royal Hashemite Court Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Spain, Raghad Al-Sakka.
